Traditions That Sting

Holiday traditions from our childhoods frame our memories. We take some of those traditions into adulthood and they then become our traditions. Sometimes when life seems to change so drastically, we want to steer away from the traditions that mean so much to us. But try not to eliminate all of the traditions that have made you joyful during the holidays in the past. Even though they may hurt, they are part of you. Try to blend new traditions with the old. You could visit with a lonely neighbor who needs the company of others. Or you could get together with a friend in the same season of life as you and make new traditions together. You will be surprised at how valuable these times can be.

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. (Psalm 139:23)
